View Article  Democratic House passes Employment Non-Discrimination Act! as Republicans attempted to throw single Americans under the bus

A special thank you to our own Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson for voting for the version of ENDA which passed the House today and for being a Co-Sponsor of the Gender-Identity inclusive version of ENDA, as well. GS

Democrats in the U. S. House of Representatives passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act at 6:20PM EST today. Unfortunately, the version which did not include Gender Identity was not the bill that passed, even though it is believed it could have passed.

Senator Ted Kennedy is the primary sponsor in the Senate and it is expected the bill will pass and go to the president’s desk. Unfortunately, we will get to watch George W. Bush veto civil rights for a group he and the rest of the Repugnant Party despise.

House Republicans attempted to throw single Americans under the bus to indulge their bigotry and contempt for gay and lesbian Americans. The Republicans introduced an amendment that would allow employers to discriminate based on marital status to create an end-around in which employers could refuse to hire gays and lesbians because they are ineligible to marry (or at least, single).

Senators:

Currently, I am a Democratic Precinct Chair in Dallas, Texas. In fact, when Senator's Reid, Biden, and Obama came to Dallas and spoke at Lee Park, they were in my precinct.

I am a lifelong Democrat (well, except for a few years in high school when my cousin Bo Callaway ran for governor against Lester "Ax Handle" Maddox).

Here's my problem: I have been a strong and consistent supporter of Majority Leader Reid, Speaker of the House Pelosi, and have explained the failure to stop the war and various other things on the basis that you don't have a filibuster-proof majority in the ...   more »
View Article  Senator Barack Obama, Tarnished Angel

Tarnished angelThe shine is off Senator Barack Obama’s campaign for president. He did it to himself, His damage control was incomplete, and then he dug himself in deeper by compounding the problem with a civil rights speech in South Carolina.

by Geoff Staples

Sometimes the seemingly insignificant tells us more about a candidate than anything else. Such is the case with Senator Barack Obama. Obama organized a series of gospel concerts for black evangelicals in South Carolina. The objective was to bring them into the Obama for President camp.

Donnie McClurkin, a black gospel singer who claims to be cured of his homosexuality through Jesus Christ, headlined the events. (To see Mr McClurkin prance around the stage, you would never guess he had gone back into the closet.)

When challenged about McClurkin by LGBT and civil rights groups, Senator Obama ignored the concerns and not only kept McClurkin on the program, but allowed him to talk to the audience from the stage. Mr. McClurkin, as would be expected, told them that homosexuality is a sin and he had been cured through prayer.

Senator Obama apologized, and hired a gay evangelist to appear at later concerts in the series.

Totally necessary

AliciabanksTHE SINS OF DONNIE McCLURKIN: HE FELL DOWN BUT WE ARE UP!

by ALICIA BANKS

I have been silent about Donnie McClurkin's increasingly boring and blatant gaybashing. For a while, I pitied his tragic childhood so much that I excused his misguided venting. But, I can be silent no more.

His recent interview in a gospel magazine is my last straw! (See it in its entirety at a favorite web site owned by one of my favorite brother warriors: www.keithboykin.com.)

Donnie says that he was raped by an uncle as a child, and a cousin as a teen. I hate that these horrible acts violated his youth and wounded his spirit. I never condone any act of sexual violence or pedophilia. But,I also never blanket my hatreds.

Why does Donnie feel the need to bash all homosexuals and curse us all in the name of God in order to detail his individual and uniquely tragic homosexual experiences? Why is he blaming all of us because he fell down? Why drag us all down with him and his molesters?

Many of us are proud to stand and proclaim our homosexuality and our divinity. And, we dare to do so simultaneously and ...   more »
